If you have recently suffered from hearing loss, then you most likely want to receive hearing aids to help you continue to have the ability to hear your loved ones and other sounds that are going on around you. In order to get the most use out of your hearing aids, you will want to consider these four tips for using them properly:

  1. Avoid Moisture Build Up: One problem hearing aids have is that they sit in an area of your ears that is easily able to trap in moisture. In order to avoid this, you will want to take special precautions. For example, after getting out of the shower or after swimming, you will want to wait for your ears to come completely dry again before putting the hearing aids in. During the hotter times of the year, you will also want to wipe down the hearing aids with a dry cloth throughout the day, especially if you tend to sweat a lot .
  2. Adjust to New Hearing Aids: Every time you bring home a new set of hearing aids, you will want to spend the first couple days getting adjusted to the aids. In order to do this, you should consider wearing them all day. The best thing to do first is to sit in a quiet room and get used to the little sounds that you hear, such as the wind outside, any beeping from electronics, and more. You should also read aloud to yourself to adjust the volume of your voice. Another great thing to do would be to go to a busy restaurant or other crowded area to get used to the sounds there, as well.
  3. Clean the Aids: You should be cleaning your hearing aids once a day with a soft cloth or a brush given to you when you received your hearing aids. This will get rid of any dust or debris before it has a chance to get lodged into the aid itself.
  4. Remove the Battery for Back Up Aids: If you have back up hearing aids, you must likely are going to be putting them in storage. Because of this, it is really important that you ensure that the battery is not in the hearing aids. This is because, if you store hearing aids with the battery in place, it can begin to corrode at the other components that make up the aid itself. This will prevent them from working altogether once you actually need them.

By considering these four tips for using hearing aids, you can be sure that you get adjusted to them quickly and get the most use out of them as possible. Click here for info on working with an ear doctor to get new hearing aids.
